Landmark for the North-Sea island Juist

Like the opera in Sydney, the sea mark at the end of the new sea bridge from Juist will be the new landmark of the North-Sea island. This is what the former Minister-President of Lower Saxony Christian Wulff said in may 2007 when he gave the “green light” for the construction of the 350 meter long “sea-bridge Juist”. What was built was a harbour for sport boats with 212 moorings and a promenade and at the end of it, a round platform with the new landmark of Juist was built – a 17 meter high and artistically formed sea mark. This extravagant steel construction was built, transported and installed by IHNEN-AURICH.

For this construction the steel construction company used its own assembly hall with an altitude of more than 14 meters. In this hall the complete steel skaffold which later will be accessible for tourists was installed. For the trial installation of the top which is 3 meter high, the hall roof was opened and the top was placed upon with the IHNEN mobile crane. After the official acceptance and dismantling of the construction, the whole steel construction was galvanized  and transported to Emden and from there it was shipped to Juist at the beginning of april.

For this purpose it was necessary to have a spring tide with a specially high water level which usually only lasts a few hours. As the delivery deadline was very tight absolutely nothing was allowed to go wrong during transport.

The building, which is much alike a floating buoy or a sail, was completely assembled at the loading place and hieved via heavy lift crane onto the bridging boat. Also the crane which together with its counter-weigts has a weight of 220 tons was loaded for the sea voyage as Juist is a car-free island and there wasn´t any heavy machinery available there.
